Japan Innovation Party leader Hirofumi Yoshimura said his party has reached a coalition agreement with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), paving the way for Sanae Takaichi to become Japan's first female prime minister in Tuesday's parliamentary vote, Nikkei reported Monday.

The new partnership follows the LDP's breakup with longtime ally Komeito and is expected to deliver Takaichi enough votes for a stable majority, potentially with support from smaller conservative groups, according to the report.

Both parties share a reform-oriented agenda, including constitutional changes and lower fuel taxes. Japan Innovation also secured LDP backing for reducing the number of lawmakers and cutting the food tax to zero - key demands in the deal, the report said.
