Internet users suffered disruption early Monday as a result of a widespread outage linked to Amazon Web Services.

In an update on its website, AWS said, "We are investigating increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS services in the US-EAST-1 Region. We will provide another update in the next 30-45 minutes."

Downdetector, a website that tracks service disruptions, showed a steep rise in outages reported by users.

Aravind Srinivas, chief executive of artificial-intelligence startup Perplexity, said in a post on X, "Perplexity is down right now. The root cause is an AWS issue. We're working on resolving it."

AWS has suffered outages before, spurring disruptions at other companies and underscoring how regional digital infrastructure problems can have far-reaching effects.
