Lithium Americas Downgraded as U.S. Stake Muddles Stock Price -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
2025/10/17

1606 ET - Lithium Americas' new investment from the U.S. government likely won't be incrementally positive enough to warrant the stock gain in recent weeks, J.P.Morgan analysts led by Bill Peterson say, downgrading the stock to underweight from neutral. The U.S. government plans to take a 5% equity stake in the Canadian company, which boosted the stock. But the analysts see the government's stake as a reflection of its own downside protection, rather than a truly strategic investment. They believe the stock is no longer being valued solely on fundamentals, and expect a correction if or when U.S.-China trade relations normalize. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
