Waste Connections Shares Rise on Higher 3Q Revenue

Waste Connections shares gained after strong results in its solid waste and energy segments boosted third-quarter revenue.

Shares traded 1.2% higher in Toronto at 246.10 Canadian dollars ($175.49).

Revenue rose to $2.46 billion compared with $2.34 billion a year ago, topping analyst consensus expectations which pegged the figure at $2.42 billion, according to FactSet.

The increase was driven by growth in the company's solid waste collection unit and oil- and gas-related waste treatment, recovery and disposal segment.

The waste services company late Tuesday posted a profit of $286.3 million, or $1.11 a share, compared with $308 million, or $1.19 a share, a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, earnings per share came to $1.44, ahead of estimates of $1.37 a share.

The company also said it is increasing its quarterly dividend by to 35 cents a share from 31.5 cents and that it is maintaining its full-year outlook for revenue of $9.45 billion and net income of about $1.14 billion.
