RWE, a leading European power producer, has selected a consortium consisting of Técnicas Reunidas and General Electric for the development of a large hydrogen-compatible gas-fired power station at the Voerde site in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant will have a nominal capacity of around 850 MW and is designed to operate on 50% natural gas and 50% hydrogen at commissioning, with the capability to switch to 100% hydrogen in the future. The project is part of RWE's efforts to support Germany's plan to phase out coal-fired power plants by 2030. Técnicas Reunidas will handle design engineering, equipment supply, construction, commissioning, and start-up, while General Electric will provide the gas and steam turbines, generators, and heat recovery boiler. Approval planning services for the plant are underway, with construction to begin promptly upon successful tendering.
