Koninklijke KPN NV has signed the UN Compact 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy initiative as part of its commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2040. The company reports a 43% reduction in energy consumption since 2010 and is currently sourcing part of its electricity from a solar park operated by Eneco. Starting in 2027, KPN will also use electricity from the Ecowende wind farm, which will increase its carbon-free energy (CFE) score to 60%. KPN has been fully compensating its annual energy consumption with certificates since 2011. The company is also participating in pilot projects, including a collaboration with Google and Eneco to exchange surplus renewable energy, as well as initiatives to develop granular certification for hourly electricity generation. These actions are intended to support KPN's transition to a fully fossil-free energy supply.
