Air New Zealand (ASX:AIZ,NZE:AIR) bought back 2.3 million ordinary shares, according to a Friday filing with the Australian and New Zealand bourses.

The company repurchased about 1.1 million ordinary shares on the New Zealand Stock Exchange at an average of NZ$0.6126 each, 31,248 shares on the Australian Stock Exchange at an average of AU$0.5306 each, and about 1.1 million shares from the Sovereign through the Minister of Finance at NZ$0.6125 each, the filing said.

The company now has 3.2 billion ordinary shares in issue and 93 shares held as treasury stock.
