Universal Display Corporation is set to acquire a portfolio of emissive OLED patent assets from Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. The transaction will involve UDC Ireland Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Display Corporation, and is expected to close in January 2026, subject to customary conditions. The portfolio includes more than 300 issued and pending patents across over 110 unique patent families, with an average remaining lifetime of about 10 years. These assets cover advanced OLED emissive device structures and related material components, expanding Universal Display Corporation's patent coverage in high-efficiency OLED technologies. The move aligns with Merck's strategy to focus on charge transport and triplet host materials, enhancing the performance of components surrounding emissive materials in OLED devices.
