07:21 ET - Bidding wars are breaking out in the pharmaceuticals sector as big drugmakers look to beef up their portfolios. Denmark's H. Lundbeck has launched a bid worth up to $2.25 billion for Avadel that could upend the latter's deal to be acquired by Alkermes. Merck has unveiled a $9.2 billion deal to buy Cidara Therapeutics after outspending rivals in a bidding battle that went down to the wire, according to the Financial Times. And Pfizer on Thursday wrapped up its acquisition of weight-loss drug startup Metsera after a bidding tussle with Novo Nordisk that drove the potential final price tag up by more than 35%.
