Ryanair (RYAAY) said Thursday it will cancel all flights to and from the Azores autonomous region of Portugal, starting March 29, 2026.
The budget airline said it took the decision due to the "high" airport fees set by airport operator ANA and the Portuguese government's alleged "inaction" that led to a 120% increase in air traffic control charges after COVID-19 and a 2 euro ($2.31) travel tax.
Azores will lose six routes, which Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer Jason McGuinness said will be relocated to lower cost airports in Europe.
