Verra Mobility Corporation has released new survey findings highlighting evolving public sentiment and funding models for U.S. roads and infrastructure. According to the company, which processes over 300 million tolls annually, there is strong support for user-based funding approaches as traditional gas tax revenues decline. The survey of 2,000 Americans in toll-using states found that 73% believe electric vehicle $(EV)$ owners should pay an "energy tax" to help fund roadways. Additionally, more than 75% of respondents view road usage charging positively or neutrally. The U.S. tolling market, valued at approximately $12.5 billion in 2022, is projected to reach $18.6 billion by 2030, underscoring growing interest and investment in alternative infrastructure funding strategies.
