1451 GMT - Canada's GDP report shows a strong gain in 3Q, but in reality it underscores the fragile state of the country's economy, says Royce Mendes, economist at Desjardins Securities. To be sure, he says the Bank of Canada will hold its policy rate at its December decision. But the underlying details should worry central-bank officials, he argues. Final domestic demand fell in the quarter, household spending is soft and business investment remains weak. And Statistics Canada reports that GDP in October likely declined 0.3% in October. "Momentum seems to have completely evaporated to begin 4Q," Mendes says. (Paul.Vieira@wsj.com, @paulvieira)
