Zoomcar Holdings Inc. has released its India's Self-Drive Shift Report 2025, highlighting a significant change in urban mobility trends among young Indians. The report reveals a decisive move away from traditional car ownership towards on-demand access through short-term rentals, with 91% of completed trips on Zoomcar being short-term self-drive rentals. Rising running costs, urban congestion, and evolving lifestyle priorities are driving Gen Z and millennials to opt for flexible mobility solutions over long-term car ownership and EMIs. The data shows a 44% year-on-year growth in long-term subscriptions, though these still account for only 5% of bookings. Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are seeing accelerating demand, contributing 30% of new users. Zoomcar also reports that individuals hosting cars on the platform can earn INR 20,000 to 25,000 per month, with high-utilization vehicles serving more than 50 unique guests annually. The company is investing in technology and insurance partnerships to improve safety, reliability, and asset protection, underscoring a broader shift towards flexible, access-based mobility in India.
