Johnson Controls International plc, in partnership with Nopetro Energy, announced a $50 million investment to design, finance, build, and operate a landfill gas to renewable natural gas $(RNG)$ production facility in Manatee County, Florida. The project, with construction expected to begin in 2026 and operations commencing in 2027, aims to convert landfill waste into RNG for local transportation use. Johnson Controls provided preliminary design and engineering, evaluated monetization strategies, and will deliver measurement and verification services for the project. The facility is expected to reduce emissions by eliminating the equivalent of CO₂ produced by 5.3 million gallons of car gasoline annually and generate enough renewable energy to power over 4,500 homes each year. The project will also support approximately 50 construction jobs and create five permanent positions.
