Lindian Resources (ASX:LIN) confirmed high-grade, low-radiation monazite concentrate from downstream hydrometallurgical test work for its Kangankunde project in Malawi, according to a Tuesday filing with the Australian bourse.
The testwork, undertaken at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), reported 55.9 weight percent (wt%) total rare earth oxides, with neodymium and praseodymium (Nd+Pr) 20% total rare earth elements plus yttrium (TREY) and 83wt% monazite, the filing said.
Acid-bake water-leach tests demonstrated a 91% to 94% TREY extraction and 93% to 97% Nd+Pr extraction, indicating that optimization of acid dose and leach conditions can further enhance rare earth extraction, as concluded by ANSTO.
ANSTO will run the next phase of metallurgical work on the project, according to the filing.
Lindian Resources shares rose more than 3% in morning trade on Tuesday.
