NextNav (NN) said Thursday that it will start operations of a 5G positioning, navigation, and timing, or PNT, network in California.

Operations could start the same day as the announcement, said the company.

NextNav said the network is intended to support the broader adoption of 5G-based terrestrial PNT, with 5G broadband, and will serve as a global positioning system backup.
