Singapore Shares Mute as Christmas Approaches

Singapore shares were marginally lower on Wednesday, with regional markets mixed as Christmas holidays approach.

The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ended the session at 4,636.34, down 3.28 points or 0.06% compared with Tuesday's close.

In company news, shares of Leader Environmental Technologies (SGX:LS9) surged nearly 14% as the company's subsidiary, United Greentech (Guangzhou), entered into a joint investment agreement with Yang Peng to establish a joint venture company.

Nam Cheong (SGX:1MZ) was up nearly 4% as it agreed to sell one 4,000 deadweight ton platform supply vessel to a Vietnam-based offshore and marine group for $20.5 million.

Meanwhile, shares of Union Steel (SGX:ZB9) were down nearly 2% as its subsidiary, Applied Engineering, completed the acquisition of a property in Singapore which includes buildings and structures, for SG$7.5 million.
