0953 ET - Inflation-weary shoppers are still spending on tech upgrades and new clothes, with overall holiday retail spending up 4.2% year over year, according to Visa. "This season also marked a turning point, with artificial intelligence shaping how people discover products, compare prices and interact with offers," said Wayne Best, the payment firm's chief economist, who noted the change led to "a more informed, more intentional consumer." In-store shopping accounted for about three-quarters holiday payment volumes, though online retail spending continues to expand, driven by early-season promotions and convenience. Electronics and apparel are hot gifts, while home decor and home improvement remain tepid. (connor.hart@wsj.com)
