Aflac (AFL) said a cyberattack disclosed earlier this year exposed the personal and sensitive health information of 22.65 million people, TechCrunch reported Tuesday, citing filings with attorneys general in Texas and Iowa.

The stolen data included personal details, government-issued ID numbers, Social Security numbers, and medical and health insurance information, according to the Texas filing, the report said.

Aflac said law enforcement and third-party cybersecurity experts suggested the cybercriminals may be linked to a group targeting the insurance industry, according to the Iowa filing, the report said.

Aflac didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
