Market Chatter: Private Equity to Further Grow in 2026 on Global Stock Market Rise, Low Rates

Private equity could see more growth in 2026 due to a low rate regime and global stock market (boom), Nikkei Asia reported Friday.

The global value of private assets held in funds reached more than $14 trillion in 2026, rising about 10% and a historic high, the report said, citing asset servicing firm Ocorian.

The figure could hit around $24 trillion in the next five years, while private equity could surge to $17.4 trillion, according to the report.

After a slump in private equity deals post-2021, transactions including those in Asia are on the recovery route, the report said.

The large gap between public and private market valuations "suggests that deal activity will become a bit more active," the report quoted John Kettnich, a partner at private equity firm StepStone Group, as saying.

Stock markets in the US, Japan, Hong Kong, and India have seen a surge due to increased AI investments and greater IPOs, the report said.
