0846 ET - U.S. natural gas futures are sharply lower as weather forecasts turn warmer for the first half of January. "January 2026 is setting up to be a tale of two halves: a very mild start is anticipated to shift sharply colder into mid-to-late month," Eli Rubin of EBW Analytics says in a note. The EIA's storage report for last week is expected to a show a smaller-than-usual 46 Bcf withdrawal, returning inventories to a surplus against the five-year average. This week's bearish shifts in the heating demand outlook "may keep storage slightly above five-year norms for most of January," Rubin adds. Nymex natural gas is off 4.5% at $3.793/mmBtu.(anthony.harrup@wsj.com)
