U.S. Natural Gas Falls on Loose Supply Outlook -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
01/10

1538 ET - U.S. natural gas ends the day and the week lower amid market uncertainty that an expected cooldown in late January weather will keep the supply surplus from growing. "The market seems to be significantly discounting any balance-of-winter risk and the forward curve is reflective of that idea," says Andy Huenefeld of Pinebrook Energy Advisors. Record LNG exports which would normally hold prices up are easily absorbed by lower demand and record production seen so far in 2026, he says. With no extreme weather on the horizon, "the path of least resistance looks like continuing to the downside." Nymex gas for February delivery falls 7% to $3.169/mmBtu,down 12% on the week.
