UnitedHealth Group (UNH) implemented aggressive tactics to collect payment-boosting diagnoses for Medicare Advantage members, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing a Senate committee investigation.
Under Medicare Advantage, the government pays extra money for seniors and disabled patients with certain costly medical conditions, according to the report. The Senate Judiciary Committee review of UnitedHealth records found the company turned that process, known as risk adjustment, "into a business," the report said, citing the probe.
UnitedHealth didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
