The number of new homes consented in New Zealand rose 7% in the year ended November 2025, helped by strong demand for multi-unit housing, Stats NZ said on Wednesday.
Total new homes consented in 2025 reached 35,969, with Auckland leading regional growth.
Within multi-unit homes, approval for apartments shot up 49% to 2,647. While the number of stand-alone house consents also increased 3.6% to 16,388.
The statistics agency said monthly figures for November reflected a continued upward trend in consents for both stand-alone houses and multi-unit homes.
A total of 3,517 new homes were consented during the month, up 14% year-on-year.
