U.S. Natural Gas Futures Struggle to Hold Gains -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
01/13

0917 ET - U.S. natural gas futures are steady to lower after gaining yesterday on the colder weather outlook. A spike in heating demand is seen into the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend for a third consecutive year, Eli Rubin of EBW Analytics says in a note, but unlike the past two years, only mild production freeze-offs are anticipated. "Soaring storage surpluses to year-ago and five-year average levels, and likelihood that the market will manage the coldest days of winter next week without massive disruption, suggest the near-term relief rally may wobble and retreat in the most-likely scenario." Nymex natural gas is off 0.2% at $3.403/mmBtu.(anthony.harrup@wsj.com)
