SOUTH AFRICAN MARKETS

The South African rand gained on Monday, helped by gold prices reaching another record high.

On the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the Top-40 index .JTOPI was up 1.2% in early trade..JZAR/

GLOBAL MARKETS

A surge in Japanese shares led Asia higher on Tuesday amid investor bullishness over all things AI, while the cloud of uncertainty over Federal Reserve independence favoured gold even as it hindered the dollar.MKTS/GLOB

WALL STREET
