Brighter Times Ahead for SkyCity Entertainment -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
01/20

0106 GMT - This will be an incrementally more positive year for casino operator SkyCity Entertainment, says Forsyth Barr. Structural changes in the gaming sector and a deep economic downturn in New Zealand were headwinds that led to a three-year cycle of earnings downgrades, analyst Paul Laxton Koraua says. "This earnings downgrade cycle has slowed over the last three months, and we expect FY26 to represent a trough in earnings, albeit with a second half skew," Forsyth Barr says. The opening of the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland will support earnings by attracting more visitors. Forsyth Barr also expects a gradual recovery in average gaming spend per visitor. "Another near-term catalyst is the potential monetization of a property asset to delever the balance sheet and resume dividend payments," Forsyth Barr says. (david.winning@wsj.com; @dwinningWSJ)
