DAVOS: EU Would Respond Strongly to Potential Greenland Grab by U.S., Defense Commissioner Says -- Market Talk

1110 GMT - The European Union would issue a "very strong" response that won't be beneficial for either the U.S. or the trans-Atlantic relationship if President Trump makes a move regarding Greenland's future status that is deemed unacceptable for either Denmark or the EU, the bloc's Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius says. Big, powerful countries are starting to forget international law, Kubilius says during a CNBC interview on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Ahead of a long-anticipated U.S. tilt toward the Indo-Pacific and away from Europe, European members of NATO should plan how to replace military elements currently supplied by the U.S., including so-called strategic enablers and space assets, as well as the approximate 100,000 U.S. troops deployed on European soil, Kubilius says.
