United: Main Cabin Sales Will Improve When Rivals Back Off -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
01/22

1229 ET - Revenue from main cabin seats will "inevitably" improve when other carriers stop flying so much main-cabin capacity at unprofitable levels, United Airlines' Andrew Nocella says on a call with analysts. United expects to see a "small but meaningful" amount of that unprofitable capacity leave the market sometime in the first half of the year, he says. "I can't predict the timing, but I do think eventually businesses stop doing unprofitable things," Nocella says. When that happens, it will translate to margin growth for United and be good for the broader industry, he says. (dean.seal@wsj.com)
