Gold Resource said that contractors are staging an illegal blockade at its Don David Gold Mine in Oaxaca, Mexico.

The gold and silver producer said Thursday that roughly 20 employees across four contractors "established an illegal mine-access blockade, resulting in the work stoppage." The contractors started the blockade over a dispute with the union representing workers at the mine, the company said.

Gold Resource said it had received notice from the Confederation of Mexican Workers union that the contractors were no longer affiliated with the union. The company said it has issued termination notices to the contractors pursuant to the terms of its agreement with the union.

"This dispute is between the union and four contractors who were previously affiliated with the union," the company said. "This is not a dispute between the company and the union nor between the company and the four contractors."

The company added that it "remains neutral in the internal dispute between union factions." It said it is prepared to resume operations once the blockade is removed.
