Duke Energy said Monday it has restored power to 131,000 people in North Carolina and South Carolina following winter storm Fern.

Nearly 22,000 customers were still without power as of 2 p.m. EST Monday, the Charlotte, N.C., company said.

Most of the outages will be restored today, though some may extend into Tuesday, Duke said.

There are pockets with extensive equipment damage along the Blue Ridge Escarpment, where outages could be extended, Duke storm director Rick Canavan said. Those areas include Hendersonville, Travelers Rest and Clemson, he said.

Duke serves about 4.7 million electric customers in the Carolinas, the majority of which are in North Carolina.
