Meta Platforms (META), Alphabet's (GOOG) YouTube and TikTok will face courtroom scrutiny this week over allegations that their platforms are fueling a youth mental health crisis, Reuters reported Monday.

The trial in California Superior Court involves a 19-year-old woman who alleges she became addicted to the companies' platforms at a young age due to their attention-grabbing design, the report said, citing court filings.

The woman alleges the companies' apps fueled her depression and suicidal thoughts, the report said.

Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg is expected to take the witness stand in the trial. Snap (SNAP) CEO Evan Spiegel was expected to testify because his company was named as a defendant but Snap agreed this month to settle the lawsuit, the report said.

The case is the first of several that are expected to go to trial this year over plaintiffs' allegations of social media addiction in children, Reuters reported.

Meta, Alphabet, and Snap didn't immediately respond to requests for comment by MT Newswires.
