Shares of DigitalOcean rose after the cloud company appointed Vinay Kumar as its chief product and technology officer.

Shares were up 11%, to $59.33, late Monday morning. The stock is up 48% over the past 12 months.

The company said Monday that Kumar, a veteran of Oracle and Amazon.com's Amazon Web Services, would oversee product strategy and development, cloud infrastructure, and security.

"Vinay has built cloud and AI platforms at scale, has tremendous product strategy acumen, understands the operational rigor required for mission-critical workloads, brings a strong track record of disciplined product execution, and will elevate our product and technology leadership," Chief Executive Officer Paddy Srinivasan said.
