Sens. Thom Tillis (R., N.C.) and Bill Cassidy (R., La.) have called on federal and state authorities to jointly investigate the Minneapolis shooting. "Any administration official who rushes to judgment and tries to shut down an investigation before it begins are doing an incredible disservice to the nation and to President Trump's legacy," Tillis said on social media.

Cassidy said on social media: "The events in Minneapolis are incredibly disturbing. The credibility of ICE and DHS are at stake." Rep. Michael McCaul (R., Texas) also called for an investigation.

State and local authorities accused the Trump administration of blocking them from conducting their own probes into the fatal shooting of protester Renee Good weeks earlier. Minnesota officials sued federal authorities Saturday to bar them from destroying evidence related to the shooting of Alex Pretti.
