Honda Aircraft, the aviation unit of Honda Motor's (TYO:7267), is aiming to turn profitable by 2030 as it prepares to launch the next-generation HondaJet Echelon in 2028, Nikkei reported Friday.

The company has raised HondaJet prices to about 1.2 billion yen to improve margins after years of losses, and is also expanding certified pre-owned sales, according to the report.

Honda said demand for the Echelon is strong, with hundreds of letters of intent, but it must scale production and maintenance capacity to meet delivery schedules, the report said.

Honda Aircraft is also building a certified pre-owned business, buying used aircraft, inspecting and maintaining them, then reselling them to generate steadier margins. It is also positioning the aircraft business for tighter emissions rules by focusing on sustainable aviation fuel, following successful test flights using 100% SAF, according to the report.
