Kevin Warsh is the right man to lead the Federal Reserve and will support the central bank's independence, according to Citadel founder Ken Griffin.

"I think the president made a really solid choice with Kevin," Griffin said at the WSJ Invest Live in West Palm Beach, Fla., today. "It's a powerful assertion that the Fed will maintain needed independence and policy decision making."

Griffin said some of President Donald Trump's rhetoric around interest rates had made him concerned about Fed independence. "There's been a lot of debate around whether or not this administration was going to undermine the independence of the Fed and, and frankly they did some things that made that a legitimate question." The choice of Warsh relieved those concerns, Griffin said.

Asked about his own political aspirations, Griffin said he was focused on managing Citadel for the immediate future, but "I like to believe at a future point in my life I will be involved in public service."
