Operations at Newmont's Tanami underground gold mine in Australia's Northern Territory have been suspended following the death of a worker on Wednesday.

"All activities at the Tanami site have been suspended," Newmont said in an emailed statement on Thursday. "Further information will be provided when it is appropriate to do so."

Relevant authorities have been notified and are at the mine site, Newmont said.

Tanami, one of Australia's largest underground gold mines, produced 408,000 troy ounces of gold in 2024. It produced 268,000 ounces in the first three quarters of 2025.
