Nintendo Results Good, Not Great, but Catalysts Are Ahead -- Market Talk

0221 GMT - Nintendo's results were good, not great, but its strong pipeline is what leads Jefferies to remain constructive on the Japanese company for the next fiscal year and beyond, Atul Goyal says. "The run is just starting, and the platform is growing rapidly," the analyst writes in a note. Highlights include games "Mario Tennis Fever" and "Pokémon Pokopia," launching in February and March, respectively. Another catalyst: The new Super Mario movie, slated for April, which Goyal expects to offer significant visibility. A December quarter 3D Mario game could recreate the "Odyssey effect," he adds, referring to the blockbuster title released in 2017 for the original Switch. Goyal calls Nintendo's conservative guidance "extraordinary," signaling upside for its 19 million Switch 2 sales target and earnings forecasts. (farah.elias@wsj.com)
