Next week will bring a deluge of U.S. economic indicators, particularly jobs and inflation reports stalled by the recent government shutdown. Investors also will navigate more earnings reports flowing in and a slate of Federal Reserve appearances to gauge the central bank's path amid persistent economic uncertainty.
Sunday, Feb. 8
-- Elections: Japan is set to have snap elections as Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi seeks to secure her grip on power.
Monday, Feb. 9
-- Earnings: Apollo Global Management, Becton Dickinson
-- Federal Reserve speeches: Fed governor Christopher Waller will speak about digital assets at 1:30 p.m. ET. Governor Stephen Miran will speak at Boston University's business school at 2:30 p.m. and appear on a local radio podcast at 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 10
-- Earnings: Coca-Cola, AstraZeneca, Marriott, Robinhood, Ford, Spotify, S&P Global, Gilead Sciences
-- Economic data: Retail sales for December and the employment cost index are expected for the fourth quarter 2025. Also, the Bureau of Labor Statistics is due to release import and export price indexes.
Wednesday, Feb. 11
-- Earnings: Cisco, McDonald's, Kraft Heinz, Shopify, Hilton, CVS, T-Mobile
-- Economic data: Nonfarm payrolls for January will be announced at 8:30 a.m. ET after a temporary government shutdown delayed this week's announcement. The report will contain data on jobs added, the unemployment rate and hourly wages.
-- Fed speeches: Vice Chair Michelle Bowman is expected to deliver a speech on supervision and regulation at 10:15 a.m.
Thursday, Feb. 12
-- Earnings: Coinbase, Unilever, Applied Materials, Airbnb, Hyatt, DraftKings
-- Economic data: Home sales for January 2025, initial weekly jobless claims
-- Fed speeches: Miran will speak in Dallas at 7:05 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 13
-- Earnings: Enbridge, Moderna, Wendy's
-- Economic data: The Bureau of Labor Statistics will release the postponed consumer-price index for January.
