AI Unlikely to Replace Software Vendors -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
02/10

0931 GMT - Software vendors are unlikely to be displaced by AI, HSBC analysts say, arguing that AI has limited utility for businesses without software, and that maximizing AI's value in an enterprise setting requires close integration with software applications. "AI is destined to be subordinate to the overall software platform," they add, noting that AI will likely be embedded within application stacks through intelligent agents, creating significant value for software platforms. Software vendors are best positioned to deploy AI in their own products, rather than startups or standalone LLM providers, given their domain expertise, sales channels, trusted client relationships, cross-licensing capabilities and coders, the bank says. HSBC also notes that building a successful software company involves far more than coding alone. (jason.chau@wsj.com)
