Air Canada has ordered eight aircraft and has rights to purchase eight more from Airbus.

The Montreal-based airline said Wednesday the new planes will be Airbus A350-1000 widebody aircraft.

Deliveries are scheduled to start in the second half of 2030.

The order is part of Air Canada's broader fleet expansion.

"This order is another step in the modernization of our fleet and is aligned with our capital allocation priorities," Chief Financial Officer John Di Bert said.

The airline has 14 Boeing aircraft expected to start entering service later this year.

It is also set to bring in the first of 30 Airbus A321XLRs, starting in the coming months, it said. It continues to take deliveries of Airbus A220, with 23 aircraft remaining on its firm order of 65.

Five other Boeing aircraft, on lease, are expected to service this year.
