1510 ET - Minutes from the Bank of Canada's most recent policy deliberations suggest the bar might not be so high for another rate cut, says Royce Mendes, head of macro strategy at Desjardins Capital Markets. He says the minutes "made clear" the BOC "wants to maintain optionality in setting monetary policy." Mendes adds the minutes underscore the highly conditional nature of the BOC's forward guidance. The minutes, Mendes says, is "seemingly in contrast to Gov. Macklem's more hawkish speech" last week, which left analysts with the impression that there was limited appetite for more easing.
