Singapore Airlines' Passenger Traffic Inches Up 0.7% in January

Singapore Airlines (SGX:C6L) said its group passenger traffic inched up 0.7% year on year in January, while its capacity increased 2.1%, according to a Monday filing on the Singapore Exchange.

Group passenger load factor came in at 86.6%, with the flagship carrier Singapore Airlines logging a passenger load factor of 86.1% and low-cost unit Scoot reporting 88.2%. The two airlines carried a combined 3.7 million passengers during the month, an increase of 4.1% on year.

Cargo loads remained flat year-over-year, with capacity declining 2% due to aircraft maintenance and fleet redeployment. Meanwhile, the cargo load factor increased by 1.0 percentage point to 52.1%, the filing said.

During the period, Scoot launched passenger services to Chiang Rai (Thailand) and Palembang (Indonesia).

By the end of January, the group's passenger network covered 136 destinations in 37 countries. Meanwhile, its cargo network spanned 140 destinations across 38 countries and territories.
