MW Coinbase says some customers were 'unable to buy, sell, transfer' amid brief Thursday disruption

The service issue comes as the the crypto giant is set to report earnings after hours

Coinbase's trading was disrupted briefly on earnings day.

The world's largest crypto exchange Coinbase Global alerted its users on Thursday that some of its services had been briefly disrupted.

"We are aware that customers may be unable to buy, sell, transfer on Coinbase.com at this time. Our team is investigating this issue and will provide an update. Your funds are safe," Coinbase (COIN) informed users at 10:07 a.m. Pacific time on Thursday.

Later the company posted on social media that the issue had been fixed.

The root cause of the disruption was "a result of a technical issue unrelated to trading volume," a Coinbase spokesperson told MarketWatch.

"Some users briefly experienced interruptions in their ability to buy, sell and transfer crypto on our retail and Prime interfaces. Derivatives and equities trading remained unaffected," a Coinbase spokesperson said.

This wasn't the first time the crypto exchange has faced various disruptions in recent years. Like many of its peers, Coinbase experienced issues during the widespread Amazon Web Services outage in 2025, and again during the Cloudflare outage later in the year.

On Thursday, some users took to social media to voice their frustrations about the outage.

The disruption comes at an uncertain time for the crypto industry. Bitcoin (BTCUSD) is down 47.90% from its all-time intraday high and ether (ETHUSD) is down 61.10% from its all-time intraday high, according Dow Jones Market Data.

Prices for crypto dipped on Thursday, along with major U.S. stock-market benchmarks DJIA SPX.

The disruption also coincides with Coinbase's quarterly earnings, which are scheduled to be reported after the bell on Thursday.
