Nissan is recalling over 300,000 Rogue SUVs over potential faulty throttle-body gears and engine-failure risks in certain models that could increase the chances of a crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the U.S. agency responsible for vehicle safety oversight and recalls, said the gears in the electronic throttle body assembly may break in certain 2024-2025 Rogue SUVs equipped with Nissan's 1.5 liter three-cylinder VC-Turbo engine.

The recall for this issue is for 318,781 vehicles and as a remedy, dealers will reprogram onboard software and inspect and replace any necessary parts for owners.

The regulator also said that 323,917 of its 2023-2025 Rogue vehicles could be affected by engine failure which can cause a loss of drive power. The NHTSA said a bearing failure could cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged and increasing the risk of an engine fire.

For this, dealers will reprogram the engine control module software, inspect for diagnostic trouble codes and test drive the vehicle.
