Dow Gains 100 Points; Analog Devices Posts Upbeat Q1 Earnings

U.S. stocks traded higher this morning, with the Dow Jones index gaining around 100 points on Wednesday.

Following the market opening Wednesday, the Dow traded up 0.21% to 49,637.82 while the NASDAQ rose 0.17% to 22,616.77. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.19% to 6,855.97.

Leading and Lagging SectorsEnergy shares gained by 1.3% on Wednesday.

In trading on Wednesday, real estate stocks fell by 0.8%.

Top Headline

Analog Devices Inc (NASDAQ:ADI) reported better-than-expected first-quarter financial results and issued second-quarter EPS guidance above estimates.

Analog Devices reported quarterly earnings of $2.46 per share which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $2.31 per share. The company reported quarterly sales of $3.160 billion which beat the analyst consensus estimate of $3.117 billion.

Equities Trading UP           

  • Sensei Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SNSE) shares shot up 230% to $30.12. The company announced a $200 million concurrent private placement.
  • Shares of Rackspace Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:RXT) got a boost, surging 153% to $1.06 after the company announced a collaboration with Palantir Technologies.
  • Auddia Inc (NASDAQ:AUUD) shares were also up, gaining 67% to $1.40 after the company signed a definitive merger agreement to merge with Thramann Holdings.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • SMJ International Holdings Inc (NYSE:SMJF) shares dropped 23% to $1.55.
  • Shares of Polaryx Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PLYX) were down 26% to $2.95. Polaryx recently announced it selected a contract research organization for SOTERIA to evaluate PLX-200, across four different LSDs.
  • Lion Group Holding Ltd – ADR (NASDAQ:LGHL) was down, falling 26% to $1.29.

CommoditiesIn commodity news, oil traded up 2.9% to $64.13 while gold traded up 1.8% at $4,994.30.

Silver traded up 5% to $77.235 on Wednesday, while copper rose 1.8% to $5.7450.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.9%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 1.1%. London's FTSE 100 gained 1.2%, Germany's DAX rose 0.6% and France's CAC 40 climbed 0.4% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed higher on Wednesday, with Japan's Nikkei gaining 1.02% and India's BSE Sensex gaining 0.34%.

Economics

  • U.S. industrial production increased 0.7% month-over-month in January, compared to market estimates of a 0.4% gain.
  • U.S. durable goods orders fell by 1.4% month-over-month in December, compared to a revised 5.4% gain in November.
  • U.S. housing starts increased 6.2% month-over-month to an annualized rate of 1.404 million in December, compared to 1.322 million in November.
  • U.S. building permits surged 4.3% in December to an annualized rate of 1.448 million, up from market estimates of 1.40 million.
  • The Federal Reserve Bank of New York's general business activity index declined to -25.7 in February from -16.1 in January.
