Deere Has $600 Million Riding on Supreme Court's Tariff Ruling -- WSJ

Farm- and construction-equipment manufacturer Deere has about $600 million in tariff expenses riding on the Supreme Court's upcoming ruling on President Trump's tariffs authority.

Deere said Thursday that a little less than half of the $1.2 billion in tariff expenses it expects to pay this year are related to Trump's use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. A ruling from the court is expected soon on whether the 1977 law gives Trump unilateral authority to deploy tariffs without Congress's approval, and several justices have appeared skeptical during arguments.

Even if the duties are overturned, Deere said it was unclear how much tariff relief the company would receive in the near term, since the administration could raise other tariffs to make up for the lost revenue. Equipment makers have been battling a yearslong slump in farmer spending, and Deere said it has been reluctant to raise prices on equipment to recover its tariff expenses.
