Netflix (NFLX), Amazon's (AMZN) Prime Video, Walt Disney's (DIS) Disney+ and other streaming services in the UK will soon be required to meet new accessibility requirements, the UK government said Tuesday.

The government said it is creating secondary legislation which will subject major streaming services to comply with a new accessibility code to meet subtitling, audio description and signing requirements that traditional broadcasters already follow.

Under the proposed code, mainstream streaming services would need to ensure at least 80% of their catalogs are subtitled, 10% include audio description and 5% are signed, with a four-year compliance period and interim targets after two years.

The government said regulator Ofcom will launch a public consultation on the accessibility code.
