FCC wants networks to voluntarily air 'patriotic, pro-America content' for US birthday

Feb 20 (Reuters) - The head of the Federal Communications Commission on Friday called on U.S. broadcasters to voluntarily air "patriotic, pro-America content" in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding.

FCC Chair Brendan Carr said broadcasters could choose to take part by running nonpartisan public service announcements, short segments, or full specials promoting civic education and American history, starting each broadcast day with the “Star Spangled Banner” or Pledge of Allegiance or air music by America’s greatest composers, such as John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland, Duke Ellington, or George Gershwin. The announcement comes as the Trump-led FCC has repeatedly clashed with broadcast networks.
