Sasol (SSL) reported fiscal H1 headline earnings Monday of 9.27 South African rand ($0.58) per share, down from 14.13 rand a year earlier.
Analysts polled by FactSet expected 9.24 rand.
Turnover for the half-year ended Dec. 31 was 122.4 billion rand, up from 122.1 billion rand a year earlier.
Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected 121.1 billion rand.
The South African fuel and chemical manufacturer said it would not pay shareholders interim dividends because its net debt exceeded $3 billion.
